2018-06-20 19:00:00 (link to chat)Can you name some guys you think are good buy low candidates in dynasty. Hoskins, Conforto, L Castillo, etc?
(Hobbs from NY Knights)
Manuel Margot, Jon Gray, Scott Kingery. (Mike Gianella)
2018-06-20 19:00:00 (link to chat)who are your best buy low hitters and pitchers ROS?
(Frank from Brooklyn)
Manuel Margot, Gary Sanchez and Brian Dozier for hitters. Jon Gray, Luke Weaver and Yu Darvish on the pitching side. (Mike Gianella)
2017-03-23 20:00:00 (link to chat)Hey Mark. Which prospects are you higher on than your colleagues & why? Vice versa which ones are you lower on & why?
(David from Atlantis)
I don't know that I have any outlandish rankings, but I like Blake Rutherford higher than his position on the top 101. Same for Zack Collins. Austin Meadows is consensus top 10 in most places, but I might have him in the top 3.

As far as lower, I'm just not sure I get it with Manuel Margot. In fantasy, at least. (Mark Barry)
2017-01-18 20:00:00 (link to chat)Do we see Manuel Margot in MLB? 1. Start of Season 2. Around 20 days into season 3. After super 2 deadline
(ThePitchClock from Left Field Scoreboard)
Option #2 (Bret Sayre)
2016-09-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)Everyone hates comps. With that out of the way, do you see Manuel Margot being a Marquis Grissom type who has a long, athletic career a bit above average but with a very good glove? Or is Margot's bat better? Wow, he's still 21!
(ColeWhittier from Pasadena, CA)
Grissom had more power, Margot should hit for more average. You have the right idea on the 'good defensive CF, ~average bat' profile though. (Brendan Gawlowski)
2016-08-05 13:00:00 (link to chat)What kind of Fantasy player can Mickey Moniak be? How much potential does he have?
(Tommy from NYC)
Moniak seems like the type of profile that will be better in actual baseball than fantasy baseball, as a large part of his value as a prospect is his ability to stick in centerfield. He can run, and scouts and evaluators like the hit tool at least, so maybe a lazy fantasy comp here is something like Manuel Margot. (Jeffrey Paternostro)
2016-06-15 20:00:00 (link to chat)Manuel Margot or Byron Buxton for 2017 and beyond? Or are they pretty similar?
(Jim from Georgia)
Buxton. He has been at the top or near the top of prospect lists for a while now for a reason. He has been up and down, which isn't great for his development. Beyond that, injuries have taken time away here and there. (Grant Jones)
2016-06-16 21:00:00 (link to chat)In your opinion, what's the gap from Benintendi to a guy like Manuel Margot?
(Max from TX)
He's a tier down. Margot more steals, but less average and power. (Bret Sayre)
2016-03-09 19:00:00 (link to chat)Which group sucks less? Anthony Alford, Rusney Castillo, Manuel Margot, Brett Phillips, Nick Williams,Spencer Adams, Mark Appel, Dylan Cease, Josh Hader, James Kapeielian, Triston McKenzie,Vince Velasquez or Blake Swihart, Jon Singleton, Dansby Swanson, Alex Jackson, Clayton Blackburn,Tyrell Jenkins, Rob Kaminsky, Zach Lee, Keuy Mella, Justin Nicolino, Aaron Nola, Tyler Jay. God these teams are awful.
(Clark from The 19th Hole)
The first group, but you're right, but they're both bad. (Mike Gianella)
2016-02-03 20:00:00 (link to chat)Greg, Please rank the following OFers in terms of fantasy impact: Nick Williams, Brett Phillips and Manuel Margot. Thanks
(Ernie from Dover, DE)
Williams, Margot, Phillips (Greg Wellemeyer)
2015-07-23 17:00:00 (link to chat)Have 4 nice OF prospects to possibly trade at the deadline. How would you rank these guys value in a 5x5 OBP league, with the caveat that their contracts will only run through 2017 (3 yr contract max league). Nomar Mazara, Nick Williams, Rymer Liriano, and Manuel Margot?
(LoyalRoyal from Kansas)
Mazara, Margot, Williams, Liriano. (Mike Gianella)
2015-07-06 13:00:00 (link to chat)Lots of fast risers on this list. Who are some of your best bets for continuing their ascent to the top of this list or to the majors this season? Is it high tool types such as Manuel Margot or Nick Williams or more polished types like an Aaron Nola?
(LoyalRoyal from Kansas, USA)
I can't imagine Nola goes a whole lot further up, mainly because he'll probably be in the majors before the season is out. This could easily be his last list.

Margot is a candidate to rise, as is his fellow organization-mate Rafael Devers. That guy may have the best hit tool/power combo on this list. Williams has also made great strides this season, showing a rare improvement in his approach and patience and even converting me. I've been one of the most outspoken guys against Williams in the past simply because we almost never see this kind of change from a guy this far into his development, but far be it for me to ignore it when it happens and kudos to Williams for figuring it out, at least to some extent. I'm in. (Jeff Moore)
2015-06-18 13:00:00 (link to chat)What's your opinion on Manuel Margot? Top 50 on the midseason list?
(AA from FL)
Probably? Margot ranked 61st on the preseason list and hasn't done anything to harm his stock. I would guess he has a solid chance at cracking the top 50-or, at minimum, not losing ground. (R.J. Anderson)
2015-04-22 14:00:00 (link to chat)Manuel Margot: he can hit, he can run, but can he take a walk?
(Future in Fenway from Salem)
I think we will see his approach work fine as he develops. He won't ever have an extreme BB rate but he won't have an ultra aggressive approach. (CJ Wittmann)
2015-02-04 19:00:00 (link to chat)Other than maybe some different names at the back end, would there be any significant ranking differences between the BP 101 and your personal 101?
(Shawnykid23 from CT)
I can't really speak to that since the BP 101 isn't officially released yet. But, in general, some guys I'm higher on than other lists are: Tyler Glasnow, Reese McGuire, Aaron Judge, Manuel Margot, Brandon Drury, Nomar Mazara, ad Jorge Mateo. Guys I'm a bit lower on: Aaron Sanchez, Nick Williams, Josh Bell, Matt Olson, Hunter Harvey, Tyrone Taylor, Luis Severino, Brandon Nimmo. Hope that helps. (Jordan Gorosh)
2015-01-20 19:30:00 (link to chat)If you were not concerned about the ETA, rank these players in a dynasty league: Manuel Margot, Jonathan Singleton, Brandon Nimmo, Rafael Devers and Steven Moya. Why?
(Douglas from a dynasty draft)
Not trying to be difficult, but there really isn't any way to answer this and balance out risk/foor without ETA. If you're asking me in terms of pure upside, let's go Devers, Singleton, Margot, Nimmo, Moya. (Ben Carsley)
2014-12-16 19:00:00 (link to chat)#Diesel Thanks for having this chat and terrific work on the Top Prospect lists. What are your thoughts on Chris Bostick and Abel De Los Santos, the 2 prospects involved in the Ross Detwiler deal? Also, why did BP favor Henry Owens over the biggest sleeper prospect in the minors, Manuel Margot?
(NatsGM from Maryland)
Thank you sir!

As for your first question, the esteemed Tucker Blair summed up the two prospects nicely in this Transaction Analysis: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=25201

As for your second question, there was some thought given to placing Margot ahead of Owens in Boston's top 10. There was some support for it within the team and I toyed with it. However, there's still enough of a gap with the bat despite what he showed in the first tour in the Carolina League and Owens can end up a solid mid-rotational starter in this view. Based on the snap shot in time, Owens was ahead by a little bit of margin. (Top 10s Chat With Chris Mellen)
2014-12-18 15:00:00 (link to chat)Could you rank Nick Williams, Manuel Margot and Ryan McMahon? Thanks for the chat!
(BomboRiviera from TX)
Ok fine, a quick two more before I go: I'd swap McMahon in front of Margot, but otherwise that's the order for fantasy. (Craig Goldstein)
2015-02-09 20:00:00 (link to chat)Who in the last 50 do you think has the best chance of moving into the top 20 next year?
(Shane from Tacoma)
That's a huge leap in one year, but Clint Frazier, Alexander Reyes, and Manuel Margot are three who come to mind right off the bat with chances to do so for me. (Top 101 Chat)
2014-10-13 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who do prefer out of Rafael Devers and Manuel Margot?
(Shawnykid23 from CT)
The reports on Margot are very strong, but I haven't seen him in person. I did see Devers, and he's a stud. He's going to hit a ton. If he was a high school senior this year in the states he'd be a possible number one overall pick. I don't know if he'll outgrow 3B or not because who the heck knows how a teenager's body is going to grow, but even if he ends up at 1B, he'll hit enough for it. SO i guess I prefer Devers just because I've seen him, but that's not fair to Margot, who gets rave reviews too. (Jeff Moore)
2014-10-09 15:00:00 (link to chat)Do you think any of the following will become first-division or elite MLBers? Javier Baez, Archie Bradley, Oscar Taveras, Manuel Margot, Jose Peraza. Thanks!
(Chopper from Indy)
I think all are at least first division. I think Margot is going to be an absolute stud, by the way. (Jordan Gorosh)
2014-09-23 13:00:00 (link to chat)Thanks for the chat. Any under the radar Sally prospects who had breakout seasons to keep any eye on next year?
(Jeff from Charlotte)
Manuel Margot obviously stands out here, though he's probably not under the radar any more. I only saw about 11 innings total due to him getting injured during my look at Greenville, but it was enough for me to buy into the total package. Ryan McMahon is a definite dude. He'll have to clean up some of the swing and miss in his game, but the raw power is legit, as is his defense at third base. I liked him a lot and put an above-average regular grade on him. Chance Sisco certainly jumped on some radars, but Delmarva was a blind spot for me this season. I already mentioned Eduardo De Oleo as my "under the radar" guy in the Sally League, though his season was anything but a breakout statistically. I'm trying to run through my notes and find guys, so if I'm missing someone, ask me about them specifically. (Ethan Purser)
2014-09-10 12:00:00 (link to chat)Favorite breakout prospect candidates for 2015?
(Festivus313 from Pittsburgh)
So many to choose from (i'm going to miss a ton here):

Manuel Margot - Red Sox - I think his breakout season was "technically" this season, but the natural bat to ball ability is ridiculous with him. Red Sox have a big-time talent here.

Josh Hart - Orioles - Poor numbers but the tools are all there. I expect to see more from him in the future.

Can I still choose Reynaldo Lopez?

One other guy I really liked in my brief stint: Marlins Michael Mader - live arm that is one to watch. Don't think it's top 101 worthy, but he could be a solid starter prospect. (Tucker Blair)
2014-09-03 14:00:00 (link to chat)Jordan, loaded question. Who are 2 or 3 prospects that you jumped up your rankings? What Midwest minor league ballparks are must sees, outside of Indy Indians?
(Holy Dipo from IU)
Nice name. Victor Oladipo is one of my favorite athletes. Indy isn't in the MWL, by the way, that's the international league. South bend has a nice park, and Fort Wayne's is absolutely immaculate.

Manuel Margot and Jorge Mateo are two guys that are going to get some hype this offseason. (Jordan Gorosh)
2014-08-19 14:00:00 (link to chat)Thanks C.J. Could you rank these prospects in terms of ceiling: Nomar Mazara, Franklin Barreto, and Manuel Margot.
(Keith from Manchester, CT)
In the order you have them, in my opinion. (CJ Wittmann)
2014-08-19 14:00:00 (link to chat)What do you think about Manuel Margot? Could he sneek into the top 100?
(Martin from Lawrence)
It's not out of the question. (CJ Wittmann)
2014-08-15 14:00:00 (link to chat)What are your thoughts on Manuel Margot and Wendell Rijo?
(Peter from Toronto)
They could be good! (Matthew Kory)
2014-08-08 13:00:00 (link to chat)Does Manuel Margot have .350/.450 upside or is he another overhyped Sox prospect?
(Mike from Holden)
I don't know how he's been hyped to you, but I don't think he gets enough attention in general. .450 in today's game is a little strong for me, but I think he can hit for average and speed, and be a nice top of the order hitter (Craig Goldstein)
2014-08-08 13:00:00 (link to chat)I have a bunch of young, far away OFs on my dynasty team. Who has the highest ceiling? Who do you think makes an impact first? Gabby Guerrero, Justin Williams, Manuel Margot, Albert Almora. Any have the chance to be a fantasy star?
(Brian from ma)
Highest ceiling, Guerrero. I don't think any are fantasy stars, but of the ones listed Guerrero/Williams have the chance. (Craig Goldstein)
2014-07-31 19:30:00 (link to chat)Who do like better out of Manuel Margot, Lewis Brinson and Teoscar Hernandez and why?
(scott from az)
For fantasy purposes, the answer is Brinson. He oozes tools -- he's more than just speed. (Ben Carsley)
2014-07-07 11:00:00 (link to chat)Manuel Margot made strides this seasons? Future 6 role in CF?
(tybradley from SD)
That's the ceiling. Realistic is probably a bench outfielder (Jason Parks on the Top 50)
2014-07-07 11:00:00 (link to chat)Raimel Tapia or Manuel Margot, better chance to be a 20-20 guy at his peak?
(TJ from Novi, Mi)
Tapia has the superior offensive upside (Jason Parks on the Top 50)
2014-05-15 20:00:00 (link to chat)Any prospect names you can throw out there who might be top 100 prospect by the end of the season who began this season unowned in the deepest of leagues?
(Neil from Seattle)
I'll throw out a couple of speedy outfielders in Low-A, Manuel Margot of the Red Sox and Josh Hart of the Orioles. Margot is further along and likely has a higher fantasy upside. (Bret Sayre)
2014-05-13 11:00:00 (link to chat)Jason could you give me the low down on this Manuel Margot kid?
(scott from az)
Sure. J2 sign from 2011 (Red Sox/Dominican); very good athlete; lacks major league strength at present; good bat-to-ball skills; easy plus runner with instincts; can play CF; arm is a little light; power is a question mark given physical profile. 19 y/o and more than holding his own at the full-season level. We had him as an On the Rise player coming into the season, and he looks to be a top ten player (in that org) going forward. (Jason Parks)
2014-05-05 13:00:00 (link to chat)I like Manuel Margot better than tapia his game is more all around type. Tapia is horrible fielder and throwing. Do you agree with me?
(Peter from NYC)
When talking about young players where a million things can go wrong between here and the majors, give me the player with the better hit tool every time. That's Tapia. (Jeff Moore)
2014-04-29 13:00:00 (link to chat)Any thoughts on Manuel Margot, OF, Bos.
(scott from az)
Craig Goldstein actually messaged me that he was the answer to the keeper league question a few beats back. So go get Margot. (R.J. Anderson)
2014-04-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)do you know enough about Rafael Devers, Manuel Margot, and Gabby Guerrero to assign ceilings/floors, or are they just too young/far away?
(Brian from Wis)
I don't go there with Devers yet, having never laid eyes on him and given his distance from even the high minors. On Margot, I really liked him last year in SS-A, and I think there's a chance he evolves into a role 6 type of player at a premium position. Guerrero is an extreme risk (all three of these guys are, actually) but he could be a first-division type with very good power, or he could never make it out of the high minors. (Mark Anderson)
2013-11-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)I'll go ahead and apologize for the blatant fantasy question, but in a medium-deep keeper league looking for lottery tickets, which one of Gabriel Guerrero, Manuel Margot, Franklin Barreto, Amed Rosario, and Ronald Guzman would you want?
(Rob from Alaska)
You can't really go wrong with any of them if you're looking for lottery tickets. I've been particularly impressed with the reports on Rosario, but my eyes tell me Margot might be the guy I'd put my money on. (Mark Anderson)
2013-09-04 13:00:00 (link to chat)Brighter future: Manuel Margot or Elier Hernandez?
(j train and the big brain from cubicle)
Margot (Jason Parks)
2013-04-04 11:00:00 (link to chat)strictly for fantasy purposes which prospect would you prefer if all players reached their potential.. Manuel Margot, Gabriel Guerrero or Mac Williamson?
(tman12 from nyc)
Guerrero (Jason Parks)
2012-12-19 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who where the best players you scouted at instructs this year?
(Lewis from New Haven)
Byron Buxton was at the top of the list. I really like what I saw out of him from a tools stand point. They're loud and the package is there. But, he's a ways away and will need a lot of seasoning.

Manuel Margot, Miguel Sano, Jose Berrios, and Bralin Jackson stood out as well. (Chris Mellen)
2012-12-19 13:00:00 (link to chat)Does Manuel Margot make the jump to full season ball in 2013? Also, is there anyone aside from him, Buttrey or Vincio that could realistically crash the top half of next year's top 10 list (major breakout potential, in other words)?
(Matt from Boston, MA)
I'm expecting Margot to go to short-season Lowell this year. I obviously liked the tools a lot, but feel the pitch recognition and approach isn't really for full-season this year. We shall see, of course, and spring training will be another good look to see where he is.

I think those would be the candidates that are presently outside the radar so to speak. (Chris Mellen)
